Evolution of condition-dependent immigration

Abstract


The immigration phase of dispersal often depends on habitat quality, population density and body-condition, making immigration "condition-dependent". To analyse the evolution of condition-dependent immigration we present a next-generation matrix model of a population inhabiting a heterogenous landscape. Individuals are characterised by their body-condition and immigration strategy. The immigration strategy depends on the individual's body-condition and on the quality of the habitat where the individual can immigrate. With the methods of adaptive dynamics, we derive both analytical and numerical results on the evolution of condition-dependent immigration when survival, competition, reproduction and emigration are also condition-dependent.
