Estimating effective bounds of population growth in a variable environment

Abstract
We present a model for age-structured time dependent population dynamics. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the model. The large time behavior of the number of newborns and of the total population is discussed. In the case of periodic vital rates, we give an explicit form for the upper and lower bounds to the number of newborn and the total population. Examples concerning four different life histories are used to describe the properties of the mentioned upper and lower bounds.
