Abstract

Despite the recent advances in medical diagnosis and treatment strategies of cardiovascular diseases, these are still one of the major causes of mortality in developed countries, with a significant impact on the global stages and high costs of healthcare. Therefore, the progress in mathematical modeling and numerical simulations has a key role in a better understanding of the associated physiological phenomena. However, some relevant difficulties arise when modeling such complex phenomena. In this talk we will address some of these difficulties related to atherosclerotic plaque formation.
