Abstract

Eliminating waste in processes through problem solving and continous improvements is one of the main ambitions in Lean. However, as the paper will elaborate on, improvement attempts itself are in many cases waste. In worst case they can create continuous waste in processes as a result. The purpose of this paper is to exemplify, discuss, and elaborate on the concept of improvements in vain. The paper is built on reasoning from industrial experience.
