Abstract

In this study, a recently developed multispectral temperaturemeasurement method is applied for temperature monitoring of inductionhardening of steel. An industry-like induction heating process is used forevaluating the method and an automatic calibration procedure is presented.Thermocouples and a conventional pyrometer are used for comparison, showing that the multispectral method gives more accurate results than theconventional pyrometer. These results confirm that the multispectral methodis well suited for accurate, non-contacting temperature measurementsfor induction hardening processes. Enabling measurements which have previouslynot been possible. This enables fast selection of process parameterswhich can improve productivity.
