Abstract


This study focuses on modelling the cutting resistance as a function of theworkpiece material properties. Thus, for a workpiece material the cutting resistancemay be predicted from the material properties without using any experiments. Thecutting resistance may then be used to determine the cutting forces, data which inturn may be used to determine appropriate process parameters and select cuttingtools for a new machining operation. The model obtained produces adequate resultshaving a variation coefficient of approximately 5 to 16 % as compared to measuredvalues.
